At the end of April, Google will be launching a new revision of their algorithm that makes responsive design a big part of their ranking criteria for websites. This is the first time Google is being loud and clear as to what their expectations are for websites in order to be well ranked within their search engine.

It is safe to assume that other major engines will soon follow Google by making responsive design a must for search engine optimization.
