How to select the right website designer for your company
By

website design

If you are looking for a website that will make your company stand apart from your competition, you will need a non-template website. A custom designed website with graphics and written content catering to your specific target audience and business goals is crucial to the success of your website and your return on investment.

As you know there are thousands of website designers in the US. Most are not true programmers and can only manage to create a website using a free platform like WordPress, Joomla or Drupal. Now we are not saying there is not a place and market for these types of websites but it truly does not require a developer. Anyone with no coding knowledge can use these platforms.

=1= The FIRST QUESTION to ask is “Are you a programmer? Can you actually code a website from scratch with HTML5, CSS3 and PHP5?

Template websites are just that… templates with a platform and content management system that provide very little customization. Though they are easy to set up, they have issues when it comes to organic search engine optimization or any type of third party integration you may need to add at some point.

=2= The SECOND QUESTION you want to ask the designer: “Can you show me the last 50 websites you have designed?” Evaluate how similar they look. You want a designer who is experienced and can create very different websites based on what their client needs not what they code.

=3= The THIRD QUESTION you want to ask the designer: “Is the website mine to keep with its content management system? Is the design mine and mine alone, or can it be reused by another client of the designer?

=4= The FOURTH QUESTION should be: “How many years have you been designing websites full time?

=5= If being found online is important to you, the last and FIFTH QUESTION should be: “How many of your websites are on page one of Google when searching for keywords (not the company name)?

These 5 questions are the very minimum you should be asking your prospective website designer. They can help you better assess if the website designer is experienced and knowledgeable and the one for you.
