The Evolution of SEO

Search Engine Optimization is ever changing, and often is the continuing thorn in the side of small businesses trying to get their websites to rank well. It’s not something that you want to have to spend time on, but you know that if you don’t you might as well not even have a website. And if you don’t have a website, how is your business going to succeed?

We’ve seen a lot of web publications claiming that SEO is dead, but they couldn’t be more wrong. SEO, in terms of stuffing your web pages with keywords so that your site is associated with a certain topic and boosted to the top of the rankings, has been slain. Google put the nail in that coffin with the release of its Hummingbird algorithm. But killing keyword stuffing is not the same thing as killing SEO. Search Engine Optimization is simply the act of optimizing your web pages and their content to be easier for the search engine bots to categorize, so that you are more likely to be found in searches related to your industry.

SEO has grown. It has transformed. Now search engine optimization is based off of content. Lots of useful text, photos, and videos, all have a lot of value with Google. Programming organically for SEO from the ground up on your website, will pay off tremendously, which means your little Joomla or Droopal site is at a huge disadvantage. This is because when you start at the beginning with a clear SEO goal in mind, you can take advantage of a lot of programming secrets to boost your SEO organically; before you even get to the content.

Once the content comes into play, if it is skillfully written by an expert SEO copywriter, you are now at a huge advantage. After that, add a bunch of great pictures to your website and name them correctly, while also using the alt tags correctly. Finally, add some videos from a YouTube page (specifically YouTube, which Google smiles upon because they own it) and optimize it correctly, and you are 90% there. From there, just create a steady stream of quality links to your site by using your social media channels effectively, and presto! You’ve got some pretty good and effective search engine optimization.

SEO is far from dead; there’s just a lot more to it now. Does that seem like a lot to pull off on your own? Considering there are whole companies built around search engine optimization, it should. You are not meant to figure it all out yourself. That’s why companies like Business Website Center exist. We are SEO experts, and we’re here to help.
