This week we continue our three-part series on how to easily change elements on your website to improve it without having to re-code it entirely.

There are three simple tips which can greatly improve the conversion rate of your website: Fonts + Buttons + Calls-to-action.

=1= Font Style and Family:

Choosing the right font for your website depends on two factors: (1) Do you have a specific font used in your brand? (2) What feeling or mood are you trying to convey to your web visitors?

Even if you have strict font guidelines in your company, you may want to stop for a moment and think if your font is right for web usage. Some Serif fonts for instance are too intricate, ornate and/or thin for web pages and those fonts make it difficult to read your copy online.  In such case you may use “your” font for titles or buttons and keep a more standardized and easy-to-read font for the majority of your text.

If you do not have font set within your brand, then the sky is the limit. Saying this, there is a great risk in using fancy Serif fonts as they tend to be more ornate and difficult to read.

  • Readability: How easy is it to read at a glance on full screen and also mobile devices? Is your audience older?
  • Overall feeling rendered by the font: Elegant, simple, fashionable, corporate, structured … what mood does it evoke in most Internet users?

=2= Buttons:

By buttons we mean any buttons you use for links. Think of buttons like “Contact us now”, “Buy this item”, “Download this file”, etc . There are easy ways to make a button more interesting and catching to the eye so that it is not missed by the visitors. Colors, borders, shadows, decoration, font, size, location … everything is important. Again changing your current buttons to new modern versions is fairly easy and your web design team should be able to make these changes quickly and affordably.

=3= Calls-to-action:

It is common for websites (even lovely ones) to be missing calls-to-action. A call-to-action is a way to engage your audience and most importantly guide them through the next step you want them to be take. For eCommerce websites, it could be a “Buy now and get free shipping” call-to-action. For others, it may be “Call us today!”. Calls-to-action do not have to necessarily be in a button form. They can be just text that stands out because of its font, styling and its location on the page.

As you can see, simple changes to font, buttons and calls-to-action can improve the overall experience on your website therefore increasing the conversion rate of your webpages and your revenues.
